Elgato’s Cam Link 4K will let live streamers turn a DSLR into a webcamNovember 27, 2018
Game capture and streaming hardware company Elgato announced a new gadget today that can turn any existing DSLR camera, action cam, or standard video camcorder into a 4K webcam.
The device, an upgraded USB dongle called Cam Link 4K, acts as an intermediary between Elgato’s software on your laptop or desktop and the camera itself. It’s a 4K version of its existing Cam Link dongle. For aspiring creators on Twitch and YouTube, this product promises to significantly upgrade live-streaming video quality without requiring you purchase an expensive webcam.
The Cam Link 4K takes HDMI input from a camera and translates it into video at up to 4K at 30 fps, or 1080p at 60 fps. Elgato says the device supports Discord, OBS Studio, and Skype, as well as cameras from Canon, GoPro, Nikon, Sony, and Panasonic. (You can check the full list of supported cameras here.) The device is on sale from Elgato parent company Corsair’s website for $129.95. Elgato says it should be available on Amazon shortly as well.
